Recently, we've had feedback that some users feel like they're not receiving notifications on their devices.
There are a few common reasons for this that I'll be going into with this post.
Do Not Disturb Mode:
If you're anything like me, you often get messages at the wrong time. I really enjoy the blissful silence of enabling 'Do Not Disturb' on my phone, but I frequently get caught off guard by forgetting that it's on and missing messages. The perceived issue can be exacerbated for a user if they're on both a Mac and an iPhone, as this setting gets shared across their devices.
Notification schedule:
Similar to 'Do not disturb', if a user has set a notification schedule, they won't receive notifications for any new messages sent outside of the schedule they have set.
App Permissions:
When you install Joyned on your phone, you're asked to allow notifications.
If you don't allow them or modify what the app requires, you may not receive notifications on your device.
Recently, we made an update to the notification configuration on Android. This update makes notifications more obvious for people who have subsequently installed the app. Unfortunately, this change doesn't update the permissions for Android users who already have Joyned installed, so to enjoy the changes we have made, please follow these steps:
Following these steps means that you will see Joyned notifications at the top of your screen.
Using Joyned on Multiple devices:
If you are using Joyned on your phone and another device (like the web app on your computer), sometimes, you might only receive notifications on one device. This could make it seem like you're missing notifications.
Community Notification Settings:
When an administrator sets up a community, they can set how and what members get notified about.
These settings are found in the 'Advanced Options' section at the bottom of the Details tab for the community.
Here is a list of what options you can choose and what they mean:
This post should shed some light on how notifications work within Joyned and give you some tips on what to look out for. If you still feel like you're not being notified about new messages coming in, please get in touch at support@joynedapp.com, and we'll gladly help.
Happy messaging.
