Joyned Team

Full-time | Salary + Equity | Purpose-led startup

Joyned is on a mission to help organisations build strong, safe communities through better communication. We’re looking for a hands-on software engineer to take ownership of our codebase and help shape how the product evolves.

We’re a funded startup, built in partnership with Brightec (the team behind apps for Waterstones and Virgin Trains). We launched last year. Since then, Joyned has already helped churches, charities, events and commercial organisations (including Hillsong, Big Church Festival, Newday and Lifetime Brands) transform how they connect with their communities.

This is a solo engineering role, as we kick-off our in-house engineering team. You'll be our only full-time engineer, writing, testing and shipping code across the whole stack. You won’t be micromanaged - you’ll lead and pioneer. Our founder will be involved in technical decisions and we can draw on external support if required, but the day-to-day is yours to lead.

We're not hiring for a job title. We care more about your mindset, your ability to get things done, and your fit with our team. If you’re confident, self-sufficient, and not afraid to figure things out, this might be the role for you.

We’re a small team. You won’t just write code, you’ll help shape how Joyned grows, and how we work together.

It is primarily a remote role, but with the option to work once per week from the Brightec studio in Shoreham-by-Sea. We also gather the team together at least a couple of times per year, for extended planning and relationship building.

If you’ve been part of a church community, all the better – many of our users have too. That context matters to us.

Tech stack:

Python, TypeScript, MySQL, GraphQL, React Native (including React Native for Web), Django, Celery, Docker, Kubernetes. You don’t need to know everything on day one, but you’ll be working across all of it, so a full-stack mindset is key.

We needed a way to keep our teams connected without mixing work and personal life. WhatsApp wasn’t built for that. I’ve already recommended Joyned, especially because of the confidence it gives us in data privacy.

I would definitely recommend Joyned to organisations both large and small who want to improve their internal communications in an easy and GDPR compliant way.

Joyned has been a game changer for our team! It’s really useful being able to create groups specific to services and events which means that not everyone is spammed with information. I would definitely recommend Joyned as a communication tool to other churches and teams.

Emma Wells
Hillsong

Joyned has improved our organisation's communication by enabling collaboration while maintaining privacy. Given its success, we are exploring how we might roll it out to more departments.
